Oslo II

We stayed about 15 miles outside of Oslo in Ås, with our friends Lars, Elisabeth and Sondre. They came with us to some Oslo museums. Here we are watching (and participating in) an on-the-street historical performance at the Folk Museum in Bygdøy, not far from the Fram museum.

Most of our touristing was done in the museums and streets of Oslo, but Ås had a few tourist attractions, too, like this wooden pedestrian bridge. The design comes from Leonardo DaVinci, and the construction was finally realized 500 years later. Nancy had read about it in The New York Times, so we made Lars take us to see it so we could check it out.

And here's the train station in Ås, with special sheds filled to overflowing with commuters' bicycles (and a big clump of Rosa rugosa in front). When gasoline costs $5.50 US a gallon, even naturally sedentary people will ride bicycles. Why not?
