A useful Norwegian saying: "Det er ingen skam å snu" (There's no shame in turning back). The following day we set out for our next hut, Reinsvassbu, but we were thwarted 5 k out when one of the toe bars on Rick's boots broke off. He had cracked it earlier in the winter but decided to use it anyway, the only alternative being heavy telemark boots. He had also broken a ski earlier in the season and was using an older, longer, stiffer pair, which didn't help things much.
So we snudde, stayed at Raubergshytta for another night, and went back to the car the next day. The binding held the boot just well enough for Rick to tour and even manage some delicate telemarks on the downhills. Back in Trondheim's Bymarka the spring skiing was in full swing, so we did some of that, and put in a day of lift-serviced skiing in Oppdal to finish off our vacation.
But our ski season was not over quite yet. We had a few more good weekends in Bymarka, and there was a lot of snow in the mountains this year...
