NTNU

Stands for Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet, which is translated as the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (because if it was the Norwegian University of Technology and Science then it would be NUTS). Here's a link to the NTNU web site.

Rick works in Realfagbygget (which translates literally as 'The Science Subject Building'). The building is enormous -- with seven floors and a massive footprint. It puts Nancy in mind of Middlebury's Bicentennial Hall. The family rarely calls it Realfagbygget. We call it (with apologies to George Orwell) "The Ministry of Information." Rick's big office is underneath the little red rectangle on the left -- not much of a view but very cushy.

The building has a lot of indents and overhangs so that most rooms have a window either on the exterior or onto one of the three glass-roofed interior courtyards. It also houses the main library, a cafeteria, and a coffee shop, as well as most of the departments of biology, chemistry, physics, and probably others as well.

The 'red box' in the photo on the left below is a small greenhouse, and Rick's office is deep in the shadows behind the three pillars. In the winter, the midday sun shines through the windows under greenhouse, then through an open lab door, then through another window along a passageway, then across a courtyard, then through the window of Rick's office where it finally reaches the back wall.

Just down the hill is downtown Trondheim and ...
