Glittertind

Here's the deal: Glittertind is ranked as Norways's second highest mountain, but when you are on top of Glittertind you are about 3 meters higher than you are when you are on top of Galdhøpiggen. That's because #2 has several meters of snow permanently piled up on the summit, as you can see in this picture.

Molly, Sebastian and Rick went over Glittertind on the way from Spiterstulen to our next hut, Glitterheim. Zoe and Nancy (with the beat knees) took the low road. Amazingly, we all met up at Glitterheim just 50 meters from the hut.

Unfortunately the weather once again did not cooperate and we were in the clouds on the summit.

But the next day was glorious. After seven straight days of hiking we had planned a rest day, which meant that Rick and Sebastian got unleashed for some speed-hiking. Rick originally planned an easy round-trip up Ryggehø, a smaller peak near the hut. Here's a bird's-eye view of the moraine of the Veobreen as seen from the summit of Ryggehø.

A long ridge connects Ryggehø to Glittertind... so Rick and Sebastian extended their hike by about 3x and went up Glittertind for the second day in a row. Above and below are views of the summit with its permanent giant snowdrift. Note figures in both photos for scale.

To the northeast the mountains fall away to lower hills...

...and to the south and west, the home of the giants.
