The Trollheimen Triangle
(Part 2: Snota)

Snota is by just 2 meters the second-highest peak in Trollheimen (1669 meters or 5475 feet). It appears as a great triangular wedge as you come out the front door of Trollheimshytta (the building in the picture is a small outbuilding -- the hut is a big two-story building). Molly and Rick decided to give the 16 k round trip tour a try.

After a long easy approach, the route climbs a series of fairly steep snow ramps between ledges and gains the ridge about where the snow meets the rock on the right side of the peak. From there it is mostly walking, but by the time we got up there it had clouded over and a little snow shower came through on a cold wind, so we decided to forego the summit. That was the worst weather of the whole trip, and not really all that bad.

That's a lesser summit, Litt-Snota, behind Molly. The snow on the uper part of the mountain hadn't softened up, but even so Molly managed to do a few nice turns on the way down.

On the way down we met Eric and Anne (he's from Colorado, she's from Trondheim where they both now live) and their dogs Jesper and Lectric. The dogs are German shorthairs and are trained for hundkjøring, a sport in which humans and dogs combine their energies to go fast over the snow -- sometimes with a loaded sled between them. They let Molly give it a try, greatly accelerating our return to the hut.
